Reviews!
Painting can be a bit intimidating, but this book makes it fun! Great for a beginner or any artist- the step-by-step instructions have you painted pancakes and pizzas with confidence. The book starts with all the info you need- explanations of supplies, techniques, color theory- and right away there are beautiful watercolor illustrations. I enjoyed the author’s style of sharing her story and little tips throughout- I get a sense of how much she loves watercolors.
The book features detailed tutorials on many popular foods, including: Boba Tea, Avocado Toast, Ramen, Donuts, Croissants and Popcorn. The tutorials include fully illustrated steps and a key to the needed paint colors. (Also love that the food tutorials are organized by meals!)
The idea of painting food feels so relatable and playful. Recommended as a great gift for anyone with an aspiring artsy side!

I’ve always loved watercolor art but never felt I could do it “right”. This book not only includes where to get good materials, but it shows you great step by step directions for how to get the look you want in your art. This is for every level – even if you’ve never picked up a brush! The different foods were so cute, the pages themselves feel like art I should hang! This is a quality book that gave me inspiration to go off on my own, as well as plan specific projects to make pieces for friends. Love it, definitely recommend.

I love Volta’s style. I am obsessed with blobby carrots through her color wheels and the range of food is so fun to paint. I especially appreciate her attention to light source. It doesn’t come easily to me, so having a guide makes me “get it” a bit more easily. If you are looking for simple, quick ideas and love food and watercolor, this is the one for you. 😍

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I’ve always been intimidated by watercolor painting but have always been intrigued by the process and amazing blending of colors. After meeting Volta, years ago, at food event, she encouraged me to try watercolors and told me that I could do it! I’m so happy that I have gotten a chance to order this book and take time out to learn a new skill, and paint one of my favorite subject matters: food! The introductory chapter on tools, technique, color theory, etc. was super helpful and an easy read – as if she was sitting next to me and having a conversation. The step-by-step instructions are super helpful and clearly written. I can’t recommend this book enough. Attached is a picture of my first attempt at watercolors, and I am very pleased with my initial results, and can’t wait to keep practicing and getting better.
