3 Easy Watercolor Patterns for Your Word of The Year

by Volta

Happy Color Snack Sunday,  and a Happy New Year sweet friends!

Word of the Year Watercolor PatternThis is my third year doing a Word of the Year and I’m really excited to share with you a few fun techniques of how you can decorate your very own.

Why pick a word of the year? I think it’s a great way to have a single word that you want to set your intentions towards. We often beat ourselves up over missed or incomplete resolutions, and this is a great alternative to still have theme for your year minus all the negative self talk in case life happens (which it does!).

Watch the video for a few more ideas that I’ve created and then watch me create 3 fun patterns using watercolors. Below, I also share a few tips of how to keep your word of the year top of mind.

My word of the year is Resilient. What’s yours? Let me know in the comments!

Have an art day & happy sketching!

Tips on Staying Intentional with Your Word Of The Year

  1. Make a list of activities that align with your word of the year so you have some options when you have a free day to play or pursue your passions. For example, if your word of the year is Creativity – you could make a list of creative events around your city that you could attend (art exhibits, art workshops, art museums, etc).
  2. Review your daily activities and see if you can find one window of time where you can insert your practice of word of the year. You could also see if you can infuse an activity you already do with that of your word of the year. For example, maybe you like to watch TV in the evenings, why not grab a tiny sketchbook and doodle while a show is on?
  3. Meditate on the word. Oftentimes it can be hard to settle in your attention during a meditation session. You could replace your thoughts with just the thought of your word of the year and keep it in mind throughout your practice.
  4. Frame your word of the year. Place it in a highly visible area so that you can often look at it. The more your mind is exposed to it, the more your subconsciousness will start scheming ways of doing and following activities that align with that word.

I hope you give this a try, and if you do, share it & tag me @colorsnack on Instagram so I can admire your work!
